It has been announced that the University and College Union has organised five days of industrial strike action for staff, occurring from the 23rd to the 29th of March.
This announcement comes just over a week after the last strike period ended and revolves around the same ongoing national dispute over a 35% cut in pensions as well as general pay and working conditions.
The strike action is scheduled for the last three days of Lent term, beginning on the 23rd February and ending on the 25th March. An additional couple of days are also scheduled to happen at the start of the Easter vacation period, concluding on the 29th March.
These strikes are occurring at 68 Universities across the country, although the impact on courses will ultimately come down to the individual teachers’ choice whether to strike or not. In an email sent to Lancaster University students, the University claimed that “staff across the University will continue to take steps to make sure there is as little disruption for students as possible during this time.”
With discussions around these conflicts ongoing and new ballots in relation to industrial action currently underway, it remains to be seen whether future strikes will continue to occur beyond these dates. The University has stated that “Lancaster University remains committed to negotiations and playing a positive role in ending this national dispute.”
